Sports Development: A template for amplifying athlete(s) or team(s) performance.

Image
Image Source: https://conceptboard.com First and foremost credit of the idea goes to Amazon Prime Series The Test: An Era for Australia’s Team , based on the journey of redemption of the Australian National Cricket team after the ball-tampering scandal in 2018, aka the Sandpapergate scandal. In the very first episode, Pat Cummins talks about the idea of having a template of being an athlete and being a successful team . It was about the gold-plated era (words of Peter Lalor) of Cricket Australia in the 1990s and 2000s. They were invincible. In the 1990s, watching the foreign players (especially cricketers) was like watching soldiers going to war for each run or each ball. They would never let the opposition take any lead in any game. And by in-the-game, I mean the batting, bowling and fielding. Some of the players from teams like England, South Africa, New Zealand, and of-course Australia would jump on the ball to stop it, which would make a difference in the overall result...

Once an Athlete, Always an Athlete

Image
The title resembles a thought, that some of the defense services of different countries like to believe-in. The most popular one is  Once a Marine, Always a Marine,  by the US Marine Corps with the motto Semper Fidelis or Semper Fi meaning, always faithful or always loyal. Athletes are loyal too, aren't they? They dedicate their lives for that one thing they have believed - in, with enormous support from their families, friends, followers/fans & also the governing bodies of that country as well as respective national sports federations (NSF) to some extent. I came across this, loyal/faithful thought from a series on Amazon Prime named NCIS . One of the characters is Leroy Jethro Gibbs - who is a marine, and keeps reminding everyone around him what it means to be a marine, and there is no such thing as an ex-marine/former-marine . Well, the same concept applies to the athletes. Doesn't it? Once an Athlete, Always an Athlete, and there is no such thing as an ex-athlete...

What if Tokyo 2020 Olympics & Paralympics turn out to be exclusively digitized?

If we look at the current scenario for hosting a sporting event in any region of any country in any corner of the world, we will have a multi-layered structure of things to be taken care of from a healthcare point of view. I feel the COVID-19 pandemic is the most politicized healthcare disaster to try and create a monopoly-like situation for the global economies. This is because some neighboring countries who also tend to be communist from the very core, cannot accept the fact that any other country can have a positive impact in terms of development to be an industrial powerhouse, hence it was necessary to create some distractions. Seems to be political? Sure it does in some ways. This is based on some facts and a few fascinating things that we can think about from what happened with Rugby last year. Japan hosted the 9th edition of the Rugby World Cup in September 2019, and it was clear that they raised the bar of organizing sports events to a new level for others to catch-up. In Jul...

Would you call yourself ‘a fan’ or ‘an antagonist’?

We all have had an equal number of opportunities in our lifetime. Some may appear when ‘we want them’, many of those would only appear to us ‘when deserve them’, but sooner or later we will get a chance to prove ourselves. Being an athlete this task is even harder, since you have a constant pressure of being watched, judged, and often criticized by many known personalities & mostly the people we don’t know, the fans aka well-wishers or commonly known as followers/supporters .  An athlete, always waits for the right moment with his full potential to grab that opportunity in-order to prove his/her worth to the people around & to the people who may or may not have heard the name or had a glance of their performances. Grabbing that opportunities will reveal its challenges where the responsibilities are relatively tough with an additional layer ...

“Journey to greatness can’t be explained, it can only be experienced". – Late. Balbir Singh (Sr) Dosanjh.

Acknowledged by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the 2012 London Olympics, Late. Balbir Singh Dosanjh aka  Balbir Singh (Sr)  was named among the  World’s 16 Greatest Icons across all Sports . He was amongst the few who took Olympic movement to newer heights, similar to what he said on  “Walk the Talk”  with Mr. Shekhar Gupta, "It is really special for someone to experience your team winning & your national flag is going higher & higher in the sky." Being a sports fanatic & a keen follower, we often come across weird stories & instances that an athlete shares about him/her or their team members. One of the strongholds of Late. Balbir Singh (Sr) was that he was obsessed with hockey - because of the history he has with the sport, and also because his father was obsessed with the National Flag  [Source:  Hindustan Times ] .   The obsession, which the athletes & sports management professional like to call it th...
